Is Ceramic Coating Worth It?

Some people are a bit confused when they hear about this amazing process called “ceramic coating” for their car. It almost sounds like a plan to cover the car in a coating of fine protective dinner plates or pottery, right? In fact, ceramic coating refers to a high-strength liquid polymer that when applied to the clear coat of a car in layers, creates a new and protective skin for the car. The polymer bond between the coating and your clear coat are strong enough to last for years.

So, when you are trying to find applicators for ceramic paint protection in Brisbane, you might think you know exactly what you’re getting, but it’s always best to first understand the full benefit of such a product before you have someone apply it to your vehicle.

What is Ceramic Coating

For clarity, ceramic coating is a special kind of polymer-based coating that offers very durable and long-lasting protection against numerous dangers to the integrity of your car’s paint. It doesn’t provide much (or any) physical protection in the same way that paint protection film can, but what it does do is to create a smooth and even surface that is hydrophobic and is able to help expel just about any liquid contaminant that lands on the surface of the vehicle.

Benefits of Ceramic Coating

A professional-grade application of ceramic coating is the only way to guarantee results that will protect your car’s paint for years to come, possibly between 2 and 5 years in all, depending on the application and on the conditions the car is subject to after being coated. If one is to use a DIY coating, which are increasingly available in the marketplace today, they can’t expect to achieve anything like that long a protective effect. A professional application is more expensive, but the benefits are worthwhile.

First, you get a long-lasting protective effect. A quality can last for many years and so it becomes one single expense rather than having to continuously purchase products such as wax or sealant and have to apply it every month or every other month in order to ensure a proper level of protection and shine.

Second, it’s more protective than any natural or synthetic wax. Most waxes only give you a short time of very limited protection and usually only against things like the sun’s UV rays. Ceramic coating can protect against bird droppings, contaminants in mud and dirty water, rainfall, tree sap and squashed bugs. The limit of ceramic coating is physical damage from things like rock chips, but that still makes it more protective than regular wax.

Third, it makes your car easier to clean. There is a pervasive myth that circulates saying that ceramic coating means you’ll never have to wash your car again. This is untrue since at least a small percentage of dirt will still be left clinging for dear life to the surface of your vehicle. The difference is that it will be a tiny fraction of the dirt that an unprotected car retains, which makes cleaning the car much easier. With a firm application of water, even, most of the remaining dirt will be safely removed. The ceramic coating keeps any contaminants close to the surface, which is why most will come off with a spray of a power washer.

Finally, ceramic coating offers the same awesome glow and shine that you get from natural carnauba wax. It may be a synthetic polymer, but it is easily a match for the highest-grade carnauba wax product when it comes to producing a pleasing glossy shine on the car. What’s more, it’s easier to keep your car looking like that for longer with the help of ceramic coating.
