The Fullerton Bay Hotel Singapore

  • Written by Julie Seat

Sunsets over Singapore

Mix majestic views with a cocktail or two at The Fullerton Heritage precinct’s famous rooftop bars

Renowned for its spectacular skyline and outstanding cuisine, Singapore is also well on the way to securing a reputation for its excellent bar scene, complete with rooftop venues that offer ideal vantage points to take in the stunning city views.

Occupying a prime position to enjoy the Singapore skyline, Lantern is a stylish rooftop bar located on the sixth floor of The Fullerton Bay Hotel Singapore. With a nod to Singapore’s forebearers, Lantern is named after the historic Clifford Pier’s original Chinese name, Red Lantern Pier, which was once lit by red lanterns illuminating the way for seafarers to land in Singapore before the advent of air travel.

Views aside, there are several other reasons to visit Lantern. The large terrace is framed by lush green landscaping, an infinity pool and beautiful lounge furniture. Even though the setting is luxe, the ambience is relaxed. Lantern dishes up gourmet snacks and serves lunch and dinner daily, as well as a tempting list of fine champagnes and wines. Cocktails are equally fantastic, created by a team of expert mixologists using fresh seasonal ingredients and spices.

Fruity favourites include Lantern’s iconic gin slings, inspired by the Lion City’s namesake Singapore Sling. The Red Lantern sling is crafted using tequila, fresh watermelon juice, cucumber and lime; and the Merlion features a fresh mix of tequila, young ginger, lime and club soda.

Open until 1am Sunday through Thursday and until 2am on weekends, the cocktails at Lantern flow from 5pm. Settle in early to catch a fantastic sunset and stay on to watch the light and water show over Marina Bay. When the sun goes down, the sounds turn up, with the resident DJ spinning house beats Sunday through Thursday from 8pm until midnight, and from 9pm until 1am on weekends.

A stone’s throw away at The Fullerton Hotel Singapore, The Lighthouse Restaurant and Rooftop Bar sits atop the city’s former General Post Office, where a beacon once guided mariners into the safety of Singapore’s bustling port.

In the Lighthouse kitchen, acclaimed Chef Carlo Marengoni dishes up authentic Italian cuisine with specially selected produce from Campania, Sardinia and Sicily. Guests can choose from an extensive collection of innovative cocktails, aperitifs and spritzes whilst gazing at one of the world’s most mesmerising skylines. During daily happy hour, from 5.30pm until 7.30pm, a selection of complimentary stuzzichini, olives, bruschetta and Italian snacks whet the appetite for ultra-cool cocktails.

Whether you book your stay at the fantastic five-star The Fullerton Bay Hotel Singapore or choose the charming grandeur of The Fullerton Hotel Singapore, both properties offer an excellent base for catching a sunset over the city.
