Mawimbi Villa: Tanzania

  • Written by Rebecca Thomas

Mawimbi Villa
(www.mawimbivilla.com), an authentic oceanfront retreat on the east coast of Tanzania, launches this month. The exclusive villa overlooks Ushongo, an unspoilt curve of palm-fringed beach rated among the top secret beaches of the world. Offering sweeping vistas across the Indian Ocean, a secluded private pool and the azure ocean mere steps away, Mawimbi is the perfect place to unwind in an unspoilt setting.

Mawimbi has been designed as a two-storey home from home with six bright and airy bedrooms with locally-crafted furnishings sleeping up to 12 guests. The villa is fully staffed with a host, butler and private chef offering generous yet unobtrusive service. Dining is a real highlight wihthout any effort from guests required. Creative cuisine is crafted from locally sourced ingredients including fish caught daily and the freshest vegetables from the local village market.

This beautiful hideaway is the perfect spot from which to discover the riches of Tanzania from vibrant Zanzibar to the Serengeti. Guests can visit Pangani– one of the country's key nesting sites - less than a mile away with expert guides to watch baby turtles hatching. Snorkel untouched reefs from a nearby sand atoll, go dhow sailing or try scuba diving at Maziwe Island Marine Reserve.

Natural World Safaris offers a seven night stay based on six people taking the villa exclusively from £2,598 per person. This includes return international flights in economy from London to Dar es Salaam, onward light aircraft return flights to Mawimbi, all meals, soft drinks, beers, house wine and snorkeling. www.naturalworldsafaris.com; 01273 691642.

Location

Mawimbi lies 250kms north of Dar es Salaam on the mainland East coast of Tanzania, on Ushongo beach. The region enjoys year-round temperatures in the range of 25-30C, and a pleasant, consistent sea breeze.

The Villa was developed with enjoyment and relaxation in mind and designed to host up to 12 people. The Villa's full time staff includes a host to take care of guests throughout their stay, book day trips, plan meals and see to their every request. The property gives on to the beachfront and is otherwise surrounded by private gardens. The beach is pleasantly devoid of beach peddlers, and safe to stroll on day and night. Popular nearby establishments include a lodge restaurant, easily reached on foot along the water's edge.

Accessibility

Mawimbi Villa is located on Ushongo Beach, 16km south of Pangani on the east coast of Tanzania. Benefiting from its own private airstrip, Mawimbi is accessible by road or light aircraft from the international airports of Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar, and the main safari destinations in the north and south of Tanzania. Mashado airstrip with connections to major attractions and to Dar es Salaam daily is located just 10 minutes by car from the Villa. The team will be happy to arrange transfers and advise guests on every aspect of their journey.
